Financial support
White Divider

All financial help is extremely valuable and no matter how small is very gratefully received.

St Cuthbert’s Church receives no funding from the Church of England, the Church Commissioners or Central Government.

We are however wholly responsible for meeting the running cost, paying for repairs and maintenance of the Church, paying a monthly contribution to the Diocese Liverpool to cover the costs of vicars salaries, parish housing and paying the statutory charges and fees arising from weddings and funerals.

Because we receive less income than it costs to run the Church we have over recent years had to spend reserves on running costs.  This means we lose around £10k a year.  Now that we have had to spend the remaining reserves securing the spire and grammar school roof we do not have any flexibility to meet the shortfall in our annual running costs.

We currently have two major financial challenges:

  1. To raise sufficient funds to meet our annual running costs.

  2. To raise funds to pay for upcoming repairs that will be necessary to protect our medieval Grade 1 Listed Church.

If you are in a position to be able to help financially then donations may be made to the Church in several ways:

Regular Giving:
If you are able to give regularly this can be done by standing order through your bank at intervals that suit you. Regular giving helps considerably and payment can be made directly into our bank account which is:

NatWest Bank
Account name:     St Cuthberts Halsall PCC
Account no:           86998722
Sort code:               01-06-45

Ad hoc giving:
If you are only able to give occasionally this is appreciated just as much.  Cheques made payable to St Cuthbert PCC may be sent to the Vicarage or directly to the Treasurer (at 9 Halsall Hall Drive, Halsall. L39 8TQ) and they will be acknowledged.

We have teamed up with a fundraising website that makes it easy to make donations directly to us. You can do this by selecting the St Cuthberts Church link:

or by using our Donate button on the home page.

Alternatively if you are planning to take part in a sponsored event on our behalf then you can also set up a fundraising page of your own linked to our charity page on

Leaving a gift in your will:
Making a will gives us all the opportunity to look after those around us and to help them, at a difficult time, to understand what our wishes are when we die.  You may wish to consider leaving a legacy to the Church once you have taken care of your loved ones and your solicitor will be able to advise on how this can be done.

Huge thanks to all of our volunteers and to our current givers, your practical and financial support means a lot, you help us to keep our magnificent place of worship open and you help us do our best to protect it so that it can be there to support our Community for generations to come.

We greatly appreciate every bit of support that we receive whether practical or financial to help us keep our beautiful Church open and able to carry out our mission and ministry. We do though have considerable challenges and an annual shortfall in income against our running costs.

We have recently adopted the Parish Giving Scheme (PGS for short!) to help us to manage our cash flow better and to reduce administration (which is all done by volunteers but takes considerable time). The scheme helps us to better manage our regular donations.

Some members of the parish will already have received information from us about how those who give regularly can help further by joining the scheme. Where members have already joined the scheme they have been delighted with how simple it is to set up and how quickly the donations including gift aid have been processed into the Church account.  Basically, joining the PGS involves setting up a direct debit.

If you are a UK tax-payer* then setting up a direct debit to the PGS means that they can reclaim the tax you paid on your income within just a few days and get it back to us. This greatly helps our cash-flow situation as we have previously only been able to claim annually.

This new scheme has been rolled out in a number of Dioceses across the Church of England and it is proving very popular. The PCC have adopted the scheme and we hope that you will be willing to do the same.

Quite simply your gift is given on the 1st of the month and by the 10th of the month the gift complete with Gift Aid if applicable is sent directly to our church bank account. Gifts can be monthly, quarterly or annually if preferred. You can leave the scheme at any point or change the size of your gift just by phoning the PGS team. Your gift with your permission, can be automatically increased annually in line with inflation, you also have the option to give your gift anonymously.

You can continue to support us as you do now but we would ask that you do consider supporting us through this scheme.  The confidential PGS form can be handed in at Church or can be sent off directly.  You can also optimise your gift, if you are able, by signing the Gift Aid box* and choosing the inflationary increase. Collection plate cards are available in Church (by the font) for use in place of envelopes or cash during services.*If you pay income tax the Church can claim some of this back through the gift aid scheme at no extra cost to yourself.

How can I join the Parish Giving Scheme:
Forms are available in Church and include information about the scheme, how it works, what the main benefits are and the answers to the frequently asked questions. We can also send a form and information out to you and to arrange that you can contact us by e mailing:

If you are already a regular giver then we should have written to you but we may not have done so if we do not have your address! In this instance please do e mail us and we can provide you with the information.

Thank you for considering this new scheme. We are so grateful for all the support you give us, and we wouldn’t be asking you to join this scheme if we didn’t think it would be a great help in supporting our church.
